Kid’s Cook Off Rules & Regulations:

  1. The Chicken and Beef category is defined by as Fresh Meat prepared on a charcoal fire, basted or not, stuffed or not, as the cook sees fit, with any substances and sauces as the cook likes. Meat for the contest entry may not be precooked, sauced, injected, marinated, or stuffed in any way prior to inspection at the beginning of the contest.
    1. Contest entries can be any dish in which the category meat (Beef or Chicken) is the main ingredient. For example, steak, cheeseburger, meatloaf, fried chicken, chicken casserole or chicken parmesan would all be qualifying entries.
    2. Each contestant shall supply all meat, seasonings, cooking utensils, barbecue grills and other equipment necessary to prepare samples. The entries must be cooked next to the Merchandise/Challenge Tent.
    3. No more than $25.00 can be spent for meat and One ten-pound bag of charcoal should be enough to cook the team’s meat samples.
    4. No grills bigger than a 55-gallon drum will be allowed.
    5. Contestants must make all deliveries of equipment and supplies before 5:00 pm. No vehicles will be allowed to stay in the cooking area. Entries must be ready for Judging by 7:00 pm, Friday.
    6. An Adult MUST always stay in the cooking area to provide supervision and safety of the Youth.
    7. The Youth and Adult Partner MUST stay with the cooker from the beginning of the fire until the coals are completely extinguished, and their area is cleaned.
    8. Atoka BBQ Fest will provide containers to the teams to submit their entries. Nothing except your entry (food only – no decorations) may be placed in these containers.
  2. The Dessert category is defined by as a baked good made on site within a MBN Cooking team or in a home kitchen.
    1. Contest entries can be any type of dish that you would eat as a dessert. For example, cakes (single or multi- layer), baked pies (fruit, custard, etc.), Cookies, or Dessert Bars would all be qualifying entries.
    2. Each contestant shall supply all ingredients, cooking utensils, and other equipment necessary to prepare samples for Judging in their MBN BBQ Team site, Chicken/Beef site, or home kitchen.
    3. Submissions must be home cooked (not store bought).
    4. Please DO NOT submit anything that requires refrigeration as the event is held outside. All entries are to be submitted as a whole (complete pie, complete cake, complete loaf, etc.) or in the quantity of a half dozen or more.
    5. All entries are preferred to be submitted on a paper plate or recyclable container. In the case it is not suitable for this, all containers used to submit the entry are the responsibility of the entrant. It is the entrant’s responsibility to pick up their container immediately following the announcement of winners. If not a sealed container; all entries should be presented in a new Ziploc bag or a new bag with a twist tie.
    6. Contestants must make all delivery of entry for Judging no later than 6:45pm. Judging will start by 7:00 pm, Friday.
  3. Each Contestant must comply with all applicable rules and regulations of the Tipton County Health Department including, but not limited to the following:
    1. Meat must be 40 degrees or less before cooking.
    2. After cooking, the meat must be maintained at 140 degrees or above in a covered container.
    3. No tobacco products will be allowed in the cooking area.
    4. No live animals are allowed in the cooking area.
    5. Dug pits are not permitted.
    6. No Alcoholic Beverages will be allowed in the cooking area.
  4. Each Contestant must provide enough samples for 6 judges.
  5. Judging will be blind only, and by secret ballot of the judges.
  6. Contestants may enter and compete in all three categories. Categories must be stated in advance on the Entry Form.
  7. Contestants from the age of 6 years old to 16 years old will be allowed to compete in the Kid’s Cook. Divisions will be 6–10 years and 11-16 years.
  8. The Youth contestant may obtain guidance from the adult partner, but the Youth MUST do all preparations AND cooking of the Adult participation in preparation and cooking of the entry WILL DISQUALIFY the Youth.
  9. Winners will be announced at the MBN Awards Ceremony, April 5th at 5:00pm.
